Today we decided to get the bikes out and explore the northern part of the Cabo de Gata National Park, ending-up at the ex-gold mining town of Rodalquilar. What we had not factored in is that the camp site is in a sheltered spot so we had underestimated the strength of the wind. As soon as we hit the main road we were cycling against a cold 40 kmph blast. Not impossible, but not pleasant either.
After a quick stop at the rather lovely little harbour at La Isleta we started to head over the hills. We got half way up and the wind was just getting stronger, in the end we gave-up the idea of lunch at Rodalquilar and headed back to the camp site - very quickly - thanks to the now extremely helpful tail wind. Here's a few photos of the day.

The lovely La Isleta - not too many places left like this on Spain's Mediterranean coast. |
The small beach |
vertiginous cliffs to the north... |
and south. |
It looks quite calm... it wasn't! |

The wind calmed down a bit in the afternoon, so we headed south from Los Escullos, down an un-metalled track which ran along just behind the rocky coastline.
We had the place more or less to ourselves... |

Later that afternoon....11th February, first BBQ of the year, how good is that! |
