Sevilla, with a plan!

Yesterday's visit to Sevilla may have been somewhat chaotic, but at least we managed to get  a good street plan from the tourist information. Armed with that, and the  information from the. Lonely Planet guide, we decided to visit the Alcazar, a palace complex incorporating Moorish, mujedar Gothic and Mannerist buildings. That would take the morning we reckoned, then we'd find a nice place for lunch in the nearby ancient Jewish quarter, Barrio Santa Cruz. After a leisurely lunch what could be nicer than a slow amble back to the aire through the narrow streets and sun drenched squares of Sevilla's medieval heart.

That was the plan, and that's what we did. Today was good, and here are just a few of the scores of photos that we both took. Moral of the tale, take it slowly, don't throw yourself at places like there is no tomorrow. I think we need to get a bit Hispanic and embrace manana, rather than trying to greet tomorrow as a new opportunity to be busy.

Once again past the beauteous cranes...
through the eucalyptus woods...

past the waste-ground full of Spring flowers...

across the park the size of Belgium.....
stopping to admire the doves...

the university....

the police demonstrating!

until we reach the Alcazar ticket office next to the cathedral.

The Moorish parts of the Alcazar are almost as beautiful as the Alhambra

What makes it unique is after the Christian conquest Western and Islamic traditions intermingled.

Arabic patterning mixed with Western figurative motifs

This eclectic mix continues in the gardens...

Afterwards, a good lunch in a cafe in the Barrio Santa Cruz

Then a relaxed wander around central Sevilla..

our cafe stop was 'enhanced' by particularly impassioned solea

The horse and carriage did avoid flattening Gill, just!

Get your flamenco outfit here!

Then back towards the aire in the early evening sunlight.
