We left Sicily in December with Gill strapped-up in a knee brace and being trundled through airport security in a wheelchair. She has worked hard on the exercises recommended by the physiotherapist over the past two months and we were relieved a couple of weeks back when the specialist decided that she was on the mend and had not damaged her knee ligaments to an extent that would require key-hole surgery. Over the past few days we have cycled about 12 miles, wandered down to the beach, and Gill's knee sprain seems to be recovering well.
| Almost fully recovered from the sprained knee, however..... |
All would be well, except she is now harbouring a brand new set of aches and pains after a bit of an incident at Manchester Airport. It was surprisingly busy and chaotic at 6am. around the security gates. As Gill struggled to find a tray for her lap-top, coat and smart-phone, momentarily she forgot that her cabin bag was behind her. She turned, and tripped headlong; her forehead bounced off the tiled floor. By the time I realised what had happened she was in a heap and looking somewhat stunned. Gill was shepherded through security, placed on a chair and given a glass of water. Paramedics arrived, fingers were held-up to count, ears checked for bleeding, pulse taken, blood-pressure declared normal, temperature likewise, paracetamol and Ibroprofen administered and a three page form completed.
Gill having been declared un-concussed and fit to travel, we managed a hurried breakfast at Giraffe before being whisked on the tabloid wings of EasyJet towards Sicily. By the time we arrived Gill was beginning to resemble a walk-on part from Holby City, and in the days since her rather spectacular black eye has been supplemented by a painful pulled muscle in her side. So having left Sicily in December drugged-up with paracetamol and Ibroprofen due to a sprained knee, she has returned to find herself still popping pills to counter the effects of her latest impromptu trip. It doesn't seem fair does it?
